The Law of the Land

Official Rules

The Boner Cup Invitational · Est. 2023

Structure

Tournament Format

36 holes total, played as four separate 9-hole rounds (nines).

Best ball match play — each team plays their better ball against the other team's better ball each hole.

4 players split into 2 teams of 2 for each nine.

Main Points

Team Points

The team that wins a nine earns 3 points per player (6 points total).

A tied nine results in no points awarded — the points roll over and double on the next nine.

Rollover points continue doubling until someone wins a nine outright.

Bonus Points

Individual Bonuses

Longest Drive

1 pt

Awarded on the first par 5 of each nine.

Ball must be in fairway or playable rough — fairway preferred for the point.

If tied, point carries to the next par 5. Tiebreak: closest to pin.

Mulligan shots are ineligible.

Course-specific notes may adjust which hole qualifies (e.g., Milburn H5 long drive may go out of bounds — subject to commissioner ruling).

Closest to Pin

1 pt

Awarded on every par 3 of each nine.

On-green beats fringe beats off-green (preference hierarchy).

If tied, point carries over to the next par 3.

Mulligan shots are ineligible.

Longest Putt

1 pt

Awarded once per nine to the player who holes the longest putt.

Any hole, any surface — longest winning putt takes the point.

Off-Green Hole-Out

2 pts

Worth 2 points to the individual player.

Qualifies when no part of the ball is touching the green at the time of the shot.

Any club. Fringe, rough, bunker, fairway — all count.

Points go to the player, regardless of team result on the hole.

Sub-Rules

Additional Rules

1 mulligan per team per nine. Cannot be used on a long drive hole or closest-to-pin hole for those bonuses.

Each partner must contribute at least 1 tee shot per nine (par 3s excluded from this requirement).

Mulligan shots do not count toward longest drive or closest to pin.

Closest to pin gives preference to on-green over fringe over farther off the green.

Tiebreakers

Tie Resolution

No ties in final standings — if two players are level, a tiebreaker hole (closest to pin) determines placement.

Long drive tie on a given hole: point carries to the next par 5.

CTP tie on a given hole: point carries to the next par 3.

The Commissioner reserves the right to make rulings on any situation not covered above.
The spirit of the game prevails. Have fun. Buy a round.
